Biocarbon – the 7,000 Years Success Story Continued on a Sustainable Industrial Basis to De-fossilize Industry

29 September 2026 | 13:00 CEST | Online

Biocarbon has been used for thousands of years. Today, this established material is taking on a new role in the transition away from fossil carbon.

With its high carbon content, biocarbon can help reduce the use of fossil carbon in industrial processes where carbon itself remains essential. Applications range from reduction processes in metallurgy to its use as an additive and as a basis for further value-added products such as activated carbon and anode carbon.

In this joint webinar by the International Biomass Torrefaction & Carbonisation Council (IBTC) and the World Bioenergy Association (WBA), we will take a closer look at what it takes to bring biocarbon to sustainable industrial scale.

The session will explore production technologies, mass and energy balances, valuable by-products and concrete examples of project development. Together with industry experts, we will discuss the pathway from established technology to reliable, large-scale production and industrial application.

Invited Speakers

Michael Wild, President, International Biomass Torrefaction & Carbonisation Council (IBTC)
Representative from Airex, Canada
Representative from Carbona, New Zealand
Representative from Dürr, Germany

The session will be moderated by Christian Rakos, President of the World Bioenergy Association (WBA).
